The author shares a very thoughtful and insightful view on the subject of style and fashion, and discusses the common traits of those who appear to have perfected a perfect union of wardrobe and inner self to create a look that is individual and truly reflects who they are. I found the book to be well written, and often thought provoking by sharing her own journey of personal discovery and the asking the reader to contemplate and identify their own gifts, and strengths. What personality traits make up who you are. What image do you wish to reflect outwards? Once we embrace those gifts we can then allow them to reflect outwardly in creating our own "True Style" and not be a copy of others or that which the fashion industry dictates. I loved it.
A truely inspirational look into going beyond the surface and finding freedom to be your true self.
Another name for this book could be called TRUE STYLE A modern guide to the pursuit of true happiness. Bravo....... Loved it.....
Author Glenda K. Harrison has style and lots of it. In her latest book she takes a look at style and delves beyond the surface in an effort to show that style is much more than a one dimensional concept. As I read her words I agreed with her and found myself nodding my head at times.
While I am certainly not a fashionista or one who is obsessed with having the latest trends (or the Consumptionist as the author notes) I do enjoy looking good in what I wear and feeling comfortable. If your clothes "suit" you I think that your style shows through. This book applauds each way that an individual expresses their style and is written in such a down to earth way that I found myself finished with the book before I knew it.
Bottom line is that style is much more than the clothing that a person chooses to wear each and every day. Style embodies everything about that person and is a true indicator of who they are and what they stand for without the masks that are so often thrown up to disguise those truths. Author Glenda K. Harrison is a gifted writer and communicator and I came away with a better sense of where I fall on the spectrum and why.
I was gifted a copy of True Style A Look Beyond the Surface for review purposes and am so grateful to have been given the opportunity to read a book that I probably would not have chosen on my own if I had not previously met the author. If you are curious about style and the different ways that style comes into play this is definitely a book you want to put on your to read list.

Style is not what you wear! Style is who you are! This sums up my take on style, so I was delighted when I read "True Style - A Look Beyond the Surface." Glenda has so eloquently captured what I believe to be the proper definition of "Style." She helps the reader to understand the difference between Style and Fashion. She peels back 6 "layers" in the process of discovering "true style." This is a very thought provoking read and I highly recommend it for anyone who wants to discover their true style.
I applaud Glenda for tackling the explanation of style. As presented by Glenda, one does need to examine beyond the surface to understand why they are fashion followers and not leaders of their own style. If you want to understand your fashion sense, Glenda gives steps to help understand and analyze your personal fashion journey, then True Style A Look Beyond the Surface is the book for you, it quick and easy to read. In addition, the book is chockful of interesting considerations to determine where you are with your own style.
True Style is a must read for all women! The authors writing style makes you feels like you are having a conversation with her. I found myself reflecting on my personal relationship with fashion and style with every turn to the page. A must read!
