This is NOT a "learn how to weave" book. It was written in 1902, and has a ton of information about weaving, however, it is geared toward the school of that time period, when there were teachers to help out the students learning. This is not a book that you can pick up today and quickly learn how to do a simple project, on say, a small table-top loom.

Which is not to say that it is not an interesting little book.

DO get this book if you want a dose of history (Egyptians are supposed to have invented the loom), some interesting commentary ("songs and games lighten work" and "beware of too much repression" when teaching children how to weave), and to learn some nifty things (how to dye your own wool and how to make a hammock), or if you are an experienced weaver, or a textile historian, or simply curious about a lot of different things, then I would definitely recommend this book.

Once I realized this was not a book on learning to weave for the beginner, I could enjoy the book for what it is. A unique slice of history, into another time. When teachers taught students the art of textiles, and those same teachers truly cared about their students as people. It is a heartfelt book, simply chock full of ideas on teaching weaving (even games and songs about weaving), and a fun read even if you have no intention of weaving.

HandLoom Weaving A Manual for School and Home Mattie Phipps Todd 9781141180967 Books Reviews

Written in 1902 this book is aimed at teachers in public schools using weaving as exercises for children.
The books starts with history of the loom, starting with the invention of the loom in Egypt.

Next the use of the loom in public schools is discussed, along with exercises recommended for students. The book goes over a number of projects, benefits to the children, tips for teachers. I found it surprisingly relevant, and I think it would be fun to use the projects in the modern setting.

No illustrations. Disappointing.
Good
Lots of things to think about for your own students. Just blew me away on how this teachers thinks still as new teachers with the hope of growth for their students.
Hey, it was free. Free or cheaper is always good.
I'm not sure why I read this whole book but I did. REALLY BAD EDITING... I found it funny with how bad it was. I gave it three stars because it made me laugh. Also it was free so I can understand what I'm guessing was a bad conversion to digital copy. Bottom line this book funny editing, kind of strange version of stores I already knew. I will not be reading this to my daughter and will not keep to read again.
This book is charming but it would be better if there were some diagrams scanned as well. So far I have not seen any, just descriptions of weaving. To me a weaving manual has pictures showing things. This might be better read by someone familar with weaving who wants to teach to children rather than someone trying to teach themselves who is new. However the price is right.
